S&P Downgrades Tether’s Stability Rating to ‘Weak’ as Bitcoin Exposure Breaches Safety Threshold
S&P Global Ratings has downgraded Tether’s stability assessment to 5 (“weak”), warning that the stablecoin’s growing allocation to Bitcoin and other high-risk assets threatens its ability to maintain its dollar peg. The agency noted that Bitcoin now accounts for 5.6% of USDT’s circulating supply, surpassing Tether’s 3.9% overcollateralization margin. The shift places Tether in the same risk category as TrueUSD, while rival USDC maintains a stronger rating of 2.

Crypto Exchange Upbit Reports $36M Hack On Solana, Vows Users Will Be Made Whole
South Korea’s largest crypto exchange Upbit has revealed a hack worth about 54b won, or roughly $36m, on the Solana network and pledged to fully reimburse customers after tokens were siphoned to an unknown wallet early on Thursday.
Oh Kyung-seok, CEO of Dunamu, which operates Upbit, said the platform moved quickly to halt activity once it detected abnormal withdrawals. “Upbit immediately suspended deposit/withdrawal services and conducted a comprehensive inspection, prioritizing the protection of member assets,” he said in a notice to users.
